SG&C Finance Associate (Internship)

Job Description:
Resilience, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the mental health of students, as well as reducing mass shootings, suicide, and depression. Resilience, Inc also works to combat declining test scores, low student engagement, and a slew of other social issues. 
  
Our organization focuses on offering Social Emotional Learning tools to enable K-12 schools to teach emotional intelligence through five core topics; self-awareness, self-control, social awareness, relationship manageEWGRIYPment, goal setting, and effective decision-making. Resilience, Inc. also provides tools for acquiring and maintaining inspiration, hope, and overall well-being.

Resilience offers unpaid internship programs that require at least a 4 month commitment with a minimum of 5 hours per week. There are flexible start and end dates with the option to continue after meeting the minimum requirement

Although this is an unpaid internship, there is the opportunity to earn school credit. Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance and Accounting Intern to assist the SG&C Director and Project Manager(s) with quarterly audits of the Finance & Accounting Division. This unpaid internship opportunity is designed for individuals majoring or majoring in Finance and Accounting, who possess excellent analytical skills, strong communication abilities, and a high level of professionalism. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in auditing practices and contribute to the enhancement of financial controls within our organization.
Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with audit planning: Collaborate with the SG&C Director and Project Manager(s) to develop audit plans for the Finance & Accounting Division's quarterly audits. This includes understanding the scope and objectives of the audit and identifying key areas for examination.
  2. Perform audit fieldwork: Conduct audit procedures under the guidance of the SG&C Director and Project Manager(s). This involves reviewing financial records, reconciling accounts, examining supporting documentation, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  3. Conduct interviews and gather information: Conduct interviews with relevant personnel within the Finance & Accounting Division to gather information and understand processes. Utilize good listening and interviewing skills to extract key insights and identify potential areas of improvement.
  4. Analyze financial data: Utilize Microsoft Office or Google Docs to analyze financial data, identify patterns, and detect anomalies. Work with intermediate proficiency in these tools to perform calculations, generate reports, and present findings effectively.
  5. Document audit findings: Assist in documenting audit findings, preparing working papers, and maintaining accurate records of the audit process. Ensure all documentation is organized, complete, and in compliance with internal standards.
  6. Support reporting and recommendations: Contribute to the preparation of audit reports summarizing the results of the Finance & Accounting Division's quarterly audits. Provide recommendations for improving financial controls, risk management, and operational efficiency.
Requirements:
  • Currently majoring or majored in Finance and Accounting or a related field.
  • Ability to study and understand Resilience’s systems and processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong listening and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with integrity and objectivity.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
