Position Title: College Summer Intern
Location: Pontiac, MI (On-site; includes travel to local businesses and project sites)
Duration: 8 Weeks (Summer Program, typically June–August)
Reports To: Team Leader
Compensation: Paid Internship (Hourly or Stipend; rate based on funding availability)
Position Summary:
The HIRE! Pontiac College Summer Intern plays a critical role in supporting the successful
implementation of our high-impact youth internship program. This opportunity is ideal for
college students pursuing degrees in STEM, Education, Engineering, or Youth Development
who are passionate about youth empowerment, equity in education, and community
transformation.
Interns will assist with daily programming, mentor high school interns, and help facilitate STEM
learning, leadership activities, and community service projects. This role provides hands-on
experience in program coordination, youth mentorship, education, and workforce
development.
Key Responsibilities:
Program & Student Support
• Assist in the facilitation of classroom-based and hands-on STEM learning sessions.
• Mentor small groups of high school interns, offering guidance on projects and soft skill
development.
• Support program instructors and visiting industry professionals during site visits,
workshops, and field trips.
• Help manage student attendance, behavior, and engagement with care and
professionalism.
• Lead or co-lead select activities, such as team-building exercises or reflective
discussions.

• Assist in setting up materials and equipment for daily sessions.
• Support data collection for program outcomes (e.g., surveys, student reflections).
• Document program activities through photos, notes, and logs.
• Help coordinate transportation, meals, and logistics during site visits or community
events.
Community Engagement
• Guide and participate in student-led community service projects.
• Support the development of student presentations and final capstone projects.
Leadership & Professional Development
• Attend training prior to the start of the internship to understand the program goals and
framework.
• Participate in team check-ins and debriefs to continuously improve program delivery.
• Serve as a role model, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and leadership in all
interactions.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a college or university program
• Preferred fields of study: Engineering, Computer Science, Education, Public Policy,
Urban Planning or related.
• Demonstrated interest in working with high school youth,
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset.
• Ability to lead small groups and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
• Reliable, punctual, organized, and committed to the full 6-week program duration.
• Experience with STEM activities, mentoring, or youth leadership is a plus.
• Must pass a background check (required for working with minors).
