Career Ambassador (Summer 2025)
About this role:
Career Ambassadors (CAs) are Oakland University undergraduate students who help other students and alumni with career-related tasks by leading our Career Studio and taking individual appointments in our office.
This position will be 10-20 hrs per week during Summer 2025.
Duties:
- Lead the Drop-In Career Studio during designated hours and provide career-related services to students either in person or virtually
- Review resumes and cover letters by providing guidance and feedback, and help students schedule 1:1 appointments with Career and Life Design Coaches after studio visit
- Assist students on how to use available resources such as Handshake career resources, major-specific sample resumes, transferable skills, and action statements
- Provide available resources to help students build confidence and strengthen their interview performance
- Help students and alumni create and update their Handshake profile to utilize for job search
- Help students and alumni to create and update their LinkedIn to expand their network, connect with alumni and professionals, and also utilize for job search
- Help students and alumni prepare for Career Fairs
- Deliver presentations and career-related workshops on topics such as Interview Preparation, Career Development, Resume Tips, LinkedIn, and more. CAs can volunteer for (paid) weekend presentations and workshops
- Collaborate with peer CAs to brainstorm strategies for increasing engagement and promoting services
- Support record keeping and tracking of student attendance and feedback via Handshake
- Support the Career and Life Design Center staff with various projects, front office support, and special assignments when not assisting students or leading the Career Studio
Qualifications:
- Current Undergraduate student enrolled at Oakland University for Winter 2025 semester
- Work at least 10-20 hours per week during the Career and Life Design Center office hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
- Must have basic computer skills, oral, and written communication skills
- Must be able to present in front of a group
- Must be comfortable working with students in a group AND individual capacity
- Must be able to work as a team
- Must be detail-oriented, motivating, and demonstrate strong customer service skills
- Must possess a strong desire to positively represent Oakland University
- Must be interested in and excited about helping students through career guidance utilizing resources, creativity, and advice
