Advance Auto Parts, Inc.

Field Management Intern

May - August 2023 • Gulfport, MS

What I liked

The whole internship was enjoyable. I recieved support throughout the entire internship. I had an opportunity to visit corporate headquarters in Raleigh, NC which was incredible and allowed me to network. The day to day taught me about operations and opened my eyes to business aspects I was unfamiliar with. I was given opportunities to run a store and was offered meaningful chances to make an impact. This is not a sit and wait internship, but expect to be heard and have significant opportunity.

What I wish was different

I do not think the internship needs much change. The program runs effeciently and gives to student ample opportunity to maneuver and gain skills as they wish. It is partially directed, meaning over the course of the internship, the student will complete a long term project, but there is still time to fine tune those skills. I would say continuing the program as is would be fantastic!

Advice

This experience allows you to get whatever you want out of it. Don't be afraid to have a voice and speak up about what you want. The company will help you get to where you want to go, you just have to tell them your destination.

Management and Sales Intern

May 2019 • Greensboro, NC

What I liked

I love the environment at Advance Auto. No matter what came up with Covid-19, they made sure to give me an amazing internship. They are such an accepting company that wants the best for their employees.

What I wish was different

I wish I could've been able to work on site over the summer rather than virtually but I am fortunate enough to be doing that now! Advance never gave up on me when COVID-19 broke out. They didn't cancel their internship, only adapted to change.

Advice

Go to the career fairs! You never know what opportunities you'll gain from them.

Sales Associate

May 2018 • Ravenna, OH

What I liked

Learning new things everyday, dealing with difficult customers, getting work experience

What I wish was different

My manager was not always the most timely or efficient but he was replaced, sometimes felt like I was on my own to learn a lot because of how understaffed and busy it would be at times.

Advice

Stick it out. Difficult jobs are sometimes the most rewarding, and don't give up just because things get hard. Working in a low-income area can be an eye opening experience as well, to see just how rough things are right up the street from you is almost a revelation.
