What I liked

I got the chance to connect with young people and make a difference in their experience for the summer. I got to teach music and art classes as well which was really fulfilling to watch young people learn and enjoy things that I love as well. It was great to connect and share the summer with wonderful people. I formed a lot of close friendships as well and it was wonderful to escape the typical rhythm of every day life.

What I wish was different

I wish the communication with the staff was a bit better and there were many times where the counselors felt isolated from the rest of the staff which negatively impacted the work environment.

Advice

Do check-ins for yourself throughout the summer and take time to yourself because most of your time is spent giving your time and energy to others. This job is a great opportunity to grow and learn about yourself as well as people in general, but you need to look out for yourself in order to reap these benefits.

What I liked

I loved almost every second of my job. The work culture is so accepting, optimistic and positive. Everyone lifted each other up. I loved the challenge of connecting with the campers and keep them. entertained. Meals, games, night activities, program areas are all a part of the camp experience, and they all exceeded my expectations.

I wish the pay was more

Advice

Know yourself. You’re working basically 24/7 for 7 weeks. You need to be comfortable being with kids that whole time and have fun doing it.
