What I liked
McKenney’s was a great place to work as a co-op. I liked how quickly I learned about the business and was immediately given responsibility. The company counts on the work from the co-ops to complete and aid in everyday operations, and it was visible that the work I put in made a difference. The company prides itself on the development of its co-ops and puts a lot of effort into teaching and growing their skill sets. One of my favorite parts about working the job was the amount of communication I had with workers across the entire company, and with other companies as well. I interacted with field workers, engineers, project managers, vendors, and our customers daily; and was given the opportunity to make impactful decisions.
I was told on my first day working that I would be given as much responsibility and opportunity as I wanted if I put in the effort. In hindsight, this statement proved to be spot on. I was given the opportunity to run a couple of projects near the end of my second co-op term and although stressful, I learned so much from the experience and got a feel for what a full-time position would be like at the company.
On top of the opportunities McKenney’s gives co-ops, I would say the best part about the company is the friendly atmosphere. I looked forward to going into the office and out on site every morning because of this atmosphere. Everyone I interacted with was so friendly and welcoming and always willing to go out of their way to help me with anything I needed. All my expectations were exceeded working for McKenney’s and I would highly recommend it to any college student interested in an internship or co-op job.
