It helped boost start my career and learn a little about drainage systems.
What I wish was different
The experience was good except for the fact the weather in Florida made a little harder.
Advice
I would recommend attending college hiring events. i was able to get an internship as a freshman, which is something that most find hard to do.

Roadways Intern
May - August 2022 • Norcross, GA
What I liked
I liked learning about the codes and procedures in the area and location I am looking to work in. I enjoyed getting experience with the relevant software and tools. I enjoyed getting to interact with professionals in my field of interest and get hands on experience with real world projects (something that is hard to do for civil engineers in school).
What I wish was different
I wish more people had been in the office so that I could interact and talk to as many people as possible. I also wish I could have maybe been in a bigger office seeing that I was the only intern and had no one in the same position as me.
Advice
Be flexible and available and ask for work. If you are the only intern in the office and many people work from home, you need to reach out and say your available to help. People always are willing to accept help and find work for you if you ask.

Civil Engineering Intern
May - August 2019 • Santa Ana, CA
What I liked
Michael Baker is really good about connecting new employees with mentors. One of the most impressionable things about this company is the culture of getting things done as a team. When deadlines were approaching, my boss would often stay late with us and take us out to dinner. While staying late was rare, the company is really good about creating an office environment that makes work enjoyable. The younger folks in the office would get together every day for 10 minutes and practice golf putting before going home, and the office even had a weekly breakfast potluck!
What I wish was different
I wish I could have worked here longer.
Advice
Work in the Water department at Michael Baker, they're the most fun from my experience.
