The best things about working at a camp is having a great faith focused community and making life long friends while growing in faith with Christ.
What I wish was different
I don’t think I would have had it any different than what it was. There may have been a couple different changes that could be made, but I didn’t see it.
Advice
Be flexible, don’t worry about what you look like, get weird, have fun, and don’t make it seem as if your above the campers. Have them respect and admire you and be real with them

Media Director
May - August 2018 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
I loved doing photography and videography of kids all summer. Capturing their energy was a beautiful thing.
What I wish was different
I wish the team had been a little more cohesive. Don't get me wrong, I loved my team for the most part. There were a couple issues within the team that were just pushed under the rug, and there were a couple people hired who should not have been.
Advice
If you are to work with SpringHill, take some time and KNOW what they stand for. They live by what their mission statement says, and they expect you to fully believe in line with what they do. They are no lukewarm camp; they have integrity in what they do. And they expect that you do as well.

Day Camp Counselor
May - August 2018 • Indianapolis, IN
What I liked
I loved learning to share the gospel with children. SpringHill also came with an awesome work environment! Even those most days involved working 7 AM-6 PM I always knew I was supported by staff. Where I felt drained in one area I was lifted up. This experience honestly completely changed my life.
What I wish was different
I would have loved getting work with an older age group as well. Sometimes communication was a struggle, but that depends on your director and certain aspects of the job.
Advice
Be prepared to pick your battles. If you sweat the small stuff you'll miss the big picture. This job does take an emotional toll, that is well worth the reward) don't make it harder on your self.

I wish there was a way to do laundry at camp.
Advice
I would advise people to check out this opportunity. The value proposition is quite high even though the pay isn't amazing.

Social Media Intern
June 2018 - May 2019 • Grand Rapids, MI
What I liked
I loved working for a Christian business rooted in faith with a mission to bring kids to Christ. I enjoyed working with the marketing team and learned so much from the marketing director there. It was also really exciting to work in such a high paced atmosphere and get to be responsible for all of their social media. I also got to have a huge role in raising over $25,000 for scholarships, a Christmas initiative to bring more kids to camp, and a recruiting campaign for staffing next summer's counselors.
What I wish was different
I wish there were more opportunities to learn from other roles in the business.
Advice
Don't be afraid to make suggestions, your ideas are valid and your employers value fresh perspectives.

What I liked
I loved fulfilling my dream to do this. And just growing in my confidence with interacting with people especially kids, and learning to be a leader well
What I wish was different
It was a bit big for m liking. There were so many people and often I felt overwhelmed with the size of the camp.
Advice
I think everyone should experience something like this, especially at an age like ours, you can learn so much about yourself and really learn how you interact with challenges and kids

Camp Counselor
May - August 2019 • Evart, MI
What I liked
I fell in love with each group of campers that I had the opportunity to lead each week. I worked with 1st-3rd grade boys for 5 weeks. One week I had the opportunity to lead freshmen girls, and the other two weeks I got to go to Chicago and Indiana to lead at day camps! I enjoyed the community and the friendships that I built throughout my summer. I gained many leadership qualities that will benefit me once I become a teacher.
What I wish was different
I wish that the food was more filling and nutritional! You are constantly serving each day that you have campers, so sometimes it can be hard to take time for yourself.
Advice
Every person should experience camp in one way, shape, or form. There are business internships, writing internships, photography jobs, counselor jobs, and so much room for growth.

What I liked
I liked the Christian community that grew throughout the course of the summer. There was a Christ centered emphasis in every aspect of the camp. I grew my faith beside fellow believers of the same age and I got to travel and meet some great people!
What I wish was different
I wish that there had been more time for personal reflection, and openess with leadership.
Advice
It is so fun, but also exhausting! I would recomend working here, but don't do summer classes at the same time. You won't be able to enjoy it as much. Take advantage of all the opportunities that come with traveling!
