Such an awesome experience learning deep managerial experience within Target. I loved all of the challenges my mentor gave me and I enjoyed going to work everyday!

What I wish was different

I wish the structure of the internship was more fluid, it was really easy to not follow the intern plan because the store would get so busy.

Advice

Target is an amazing company to work for and they truly care about their staff. With a high retention rate after the internship, it was nice to know I had a full-time job offer after college.

HR Expert

June 2018 • San Bruno, CA

What I liked

I liked this job because I was able to learn a lot of transferrable skills that I could use in other workplaces. This included skills such as answering phones and other typical office skills, learning about tracking and managing employee timesheets and personal information, and how to prepare for the interview and hiring process of job candidates. I also enjoyed the team I got to work with.

What I wish was different

Sometimes I would be left alone in the office to take care of HR duties and things would get really busy. I just thought the store I worked at should have hired more people for HR so that responsibilities don't have to fall on one person sometimes. I also think a position in HR should be paid more than the starting pay for everyone else in the store.

Advice

Have patience! At first, it may seem like a lot to learn about all of the systems and rules that a company like Target utilizes, but you get used to it really quickly. You'll make mistakes sometimes, but you can always rely on your team to help you when you need it.

Style

June 2019 • Boulder, CO

What I liked

The hourly flexibility, the staff, and the community

What I wish was different

There was drama if you chose to be a part of it but it wasn’t obvious and in your face. Communication also seemed to be an issue and they would often schedule me less than I had asked for.

Advice

Take the job at face value. It isn’t the worst job in the world but it also isn’t glamorous - it’s a retail job and you’ll deal with rude customers often, but you just got to make the best of it.
