Gap, Inc.

Brand Associate

July - August 2019 • Fort Lauderdale, FL

What I liked

As it was my first job, the pay rate was above minimum wage and my coworkers were very helpful and nice.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had an opportunity to select the shifts that I would like more instead of the manager just choosing my shifts based off my availability.

Advice

You have to have patience with the customers and if they see how willing you are to help them it could benefit you in the future.

March 2017 • Reynoldsburg, OH

What I liked

I love working with people and assisting them with their needs. It is such a fun, high paced atmosphere which made the hours go by quick. Plus I love the company's mission and their apparel.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to take on a leadership role but understandably they don't hire college students as leads since we are gone more often.

Advice

If you want to go into retail be sure to have high energy and positivity. You will learn to work quickly under pressure but it will build your character and work ethic.

Brand Associate

July 2017 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I love every aspect of my job - I love my management team and am very close with all of my managers. I also like how flexible this job is, they are willing to work with my school schedule and the hours which I am available during the school year vs the summer.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

I would say that if you start working at Old Navy (or probably any retail job) you might hate it at first, but once you get used to it, it won't be so bad. I didn't like working in retail at all when I first started, but now I love my job!!

November 2018 • Henrico, VA

What I liked

No day is the same, there is always someone new to talk to, something new to do.

What I wish was different

I wish I was willing to give up more of my time and availability to be able to climb the ladder to become a manager.

Advice

Retail is for the strong willed, but it is very rewarding to know you helped to make someone happy for whatever reason. There aren’t nearly as many “Karen” type of customers as people think either.

Retail Salesperson

May - August 2019 • Snellville, GA

What I liked

I liked the experiences of getting to meet and interact with different types of people and co workers everyday.

What I wish was different

I wish that sales and discount were better communicated between the advertisers and the customers to prevent frustration and confusion at the check out lane.

Advice

A piece of advise that I would want to give to someone working in retail is that there will always be some customers who are not having a good day and will be upset no matter how nice and how well you have served them and to not take that personally and let it affect your work day.
