Financial Assurance Intern

July - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Although the internship was in a virtual format, PwC did a great job highlighting the firm culture and providing networking opportunities. A major focus of the internship was digital upscaling, so we received training in various tools such as tableau, alteryx, and UiPath.

What I wish was different

I would have preferred an in-person internship, however, the circumstances did not allow it. I am grateful that PwC was able to create such a great program on short notice.

Advice

Although the program was fantastic, it is important to use the connections that are made available to you. Since the internship was online, it was harder to make personal connections with other people in larger group meetings. Take advantage of the potential connections and set up one-on-one calls. Ask lots of questions. Everyone I spoke to was happy to answer them. I ended up learning significantly more about the firm this way since I wasn't at the firm in person.

Accounting Intern

July 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The internship helped me to build some practical skills, working with different programs that PwC employees use in their workplace. Additionally, it taught me more about specifically what employees do in different sectors of PwC. Lastly, and probably my favorite part, it allowed us to connect with different people in different stages of their careers at PwC, whether it be associates, partners, or fellow interns. These personal connections really helped to get a feel for the firm, as well as connections that may benefit me in the future.

What I wish was different

It was interesting how PwC accomodated for their interns and decided to make the internship virtual, but I still wish I could have had the traditional office experience. It would have allowed me to see more what the actual workplace environment is like. But, these days the actual workplace environment will likely be more virtual moving forward, so that was still good experience.

Advice

I would say that it is a very good way to be introduced to the wider world of accounting, beyond just classes and school. PwC doesn't completely throw you to the wolves to start, but instead helps you understand what they are about and what you will be doing in accounting if you entered a career with them.

Risk Assurance Intern

July - August 2020 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

Even though the internship was shortened down due to COVID, I still got to meet a lot of people virtually and expand my network. I also got to shadow in on client meetings, attend PwC national conferences, and meet with my intern group every day

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer than 2 weeks so I had the experience of working with a client.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is that you should try meeting with as many individuals as possible during the time of your internship. It is so easy and fun to expand your network if you're willing to reach out to people.

IFS Start Intern

July 2020 • Florham Park, NJ

What I liked

I enjoyed the people I worked with and the job I was assigned to do. The people always make an experience great for me, and I met some lovely individuals. They were hard working and very friendly; we were able to work well together and also laugh and share stories in our free time to make the air a little lighter, less formal, and more fun. The mentors I had also helped me grow as an individual and as a professional. I took different digital acceleration courses to improve my skills with different programs, and I enjoyed improving myself. The whole experience was phenomenal.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer and not virtual. The internship was originally 7 weeks in the Florham Park, NJ office. Because of the pandemic, the internship had to be adjusted to a 4 week virtual internship.

Advice

Approach every task with a positive attitude. The happier you are, the more you can accomplish. You will handle stress better and be more personable to your team.

Tax Intern

January - April 2020 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people I worked with and the environment of the office. Everyone was very accepting and easy to get along with. I also really enjoyed what I learned and how involved I was in the work. I had an opportunity to participate in all the work that the other associates did so I could really experience what I will experience when I start work full time after I finish school.

What I wish was different

I would have liked the internship to have continued longer, but otherwise, it was an incredible experience!

Advice

I would advise that if you really want to have an internship and find a job for after you graduate college, to really go for it, don't be afraid to look for an internship and ask for opportunities. The sooner you start connecting with those in the industry/company you want to be in, the easier it will be to find a position where you want. Networking was key for me in getting my internship; because I knew my interviewer quite well, and our conversation was mostly just chatting which was really nice. Since I already had a connection with them, they trusted me and already knew I would be a good fit with the company.

What I liked

I liked that although it was virtual, they still gave a great experience and many opportunities to network.

What I wish was different

That it could have been two more weeks longer.

Advice

Be open to learning new things. I had to learn two softwares through this internship and it was challenging. But patience is key and be open to doing new things and networking with people.

Accountant Intern

July - August 2020 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

Ability to network; met crucial members of potential teams to join (in tax division). Strong emphasis on company values and culture: Diversity and Inclusion, Be Well Work Well (for work-life balance), free access to apps for stress, mindfulness, healthier living, and Perks (for shopping discounts).

What I wish was different

It was remote. There was a lot of "work-on-your-own" time and it was difficult to distinguish what was actually expected of you. Earning badges (in software programs) and learning creative client strategies (Human Center of Design workshop) was something I didn't expect; I would have preferred more insight on the day-to-day activities that I will be engaging in once I start.

Advice

Be patient. Shifting to remote-style internships is challenging to everyone, so be understanding. Pay attention because they throw a lot at you all at once. Ask questions. Show the company that you can overcome the obstacles and that you are eager to learn and be a part of their organization.

People and Organizations Intern

July 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Due to COVID, the Internship changed from a ten-week Internship to a two week virtual “Digital Upskilling Course”. Despite the change, I learned SO much! I loved how we became familiar with new softwares such as Tableau and Alteryx, and I earned my badge in human-centered design!

What I wish was different

I wish that it could have been longer than two weeks.

Advice

One piece of advice I have is to NETWORK! During the two weeks, any opportunity that I had free time, I would network - whether via email, zoom meetings, etc. with people both in my group and in different departments within the company!
