Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

This internship was amazing. I was able to shadow in tax and audit to get a feel for the type of work I could be doing in the future. I also made many connections and relationships with the people at the firm including seniors and partners.

What I wish was different

I wish this internship was longer. Also there was some down time during the internship where I wish there could have been more hands on work to do.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is being an intern, you are learning so many things so I would make sure to ask many questions. Also don’t forget to network and make connections with seniors and others so they will remember you and you can leave a lasting impression.

Tech Consulting Intern

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience and how real it feels. You will be placed on a team and be treated just like a starting associate. This gives you a lot of opportunity to really understand the work and grow. There is no hiding of the work load and expectations. Very transparent company.

What I wish was different

You will have no control over the team and project you get on. It may not line up with what you recruited for and what you are hoping to learn. However, that it is the way it goes in the world of consulting. This is something you have to be ready for and be okay with going into it.

Advice

If you get the internship I would take it. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity with a fantastic company. I would recommend spending as much of your time finding ways to make a real difference on your project. If you don't find something you can do to help, chances are no one will and you will be bored. You can stand out if you try and are smart about it.

Data Analytics Intern

June - July 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I learned a lot and the people at the office were great. They were very helpful and they provided many opportunities for development.

What I wish was different

Some of the shadowing opportunities were pretty useless. It could have been much better planned.

Advice

Whatever assignment you get, think outside the box. Really read between the lines of the questions or prompts you are given to actually provide value.

Core Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed having the opportunity to be working on projects with other current employees and with clients and developing a skill set that will help me stand out and continue my progress as I continue to move forward with my education and in my career. I was also able to work with a lot of great people which was really fun and a great way to expand my network while making new friends.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to experience work with more clients to get a full range of experience and how to adapt what you are doing to various clients.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions, it's normal and expected. If you aren't asking questions, people will think something is wrong. I would advise that you do spend a bit of time to make sure you understand what you are supposed to do and try a few things out to show that you are willing to learn and try to find solutions to problems on your own (being proactive) before asking for help.

What I liked

I had the most incredible experience during my summer with PwC. I interned in the State and Local tax department and worked on various client projects with numerous team members. Everyone on the team was so friendly and was willing to help and give guidance whenever needed. I was even able to go to a client site for a couple days which was a really great experience.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be ready to learn! There is so much to learn in each department including softwares and research materials. Ask questions; no question is silly. Networking is key as well!

Start Intern

June - July 2019 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I really enjoyed being treated as if I'm an employee rather than an intern. I was respected among the co-workers and was genuinely invited by others for lunch. I also loved the culture PwC embodies. The company makes you feel like you belong.

What I wish was different

Although we did a community service event, I would've liked to see more of the projects the company does.

Advice

A piece of advice I'd share is to network. PwC did a great job showing us interns how to network through the National Training they put together. It was a great way to get out of your comfort zone and meet people you never thought you would meet and stay in contact with. This also carried on into the office throughout the summer. In the break room or around the office, it's okay to say hello and speak to someone, who you can eventually shadow, and to have a familiar face if hired on full time.

Corporate Tax

June - August 2019 • Florham Park, NJ

What I liked

The team I was on helped me learn a ton about the company and about the work we had to complete. My peers were super helpful in bringing me up to speed on projects and on how different database systems operated. The different events available throughout the internship were fun and varied. I was able to meet a lot of professionals form the firm as well, which aided in me learning even more.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more to do throughout the internship, but understood that the Summer in my department wasn't the busiest time. Every team operated differently, and some friends in other departments ended up being very busy. However, I'm sure I won't be complaining about this when I eventually start full time.

Advice

Meet as many people as you can throughout the internship and get out of your comfort zone. This goes for both the internship and in any professional setting. The more people you meet, the better. You will only get what you put into it, so give every bit your best effort, even in the slower points in time. Also: if you are looking to become a CPA, make a plan and stick to it.

Audit Intern

June - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

The inter company training seminars were especially helpful in allowing me to get a firsthand experience of what the job will require. Also, I was able to meet about fifty people who I will be working with in the future and it was great to meet them and see how well I could work with them in the future by joining them in their work for eight weeks over the summer.

What I wish was different

The timing of when I applied for this internship was just before midterms. I wish I would have planned my timing a little better to apply earlier in the semester because I was conducting the first, and second round interviews during midterm study time and was stressful for me.

Advice

Getting an internship may seem like extra work with the resume preparation, employer research, job applications, and multiple interviews, but they are well worth putting in the effort for as performing an internship will give you a good feel for the company culture and how well you will fit within it which is very important to evaluate before joining an company.

Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed learning about technology, specifically being introduced to and familiarizing myself with Alteryx. I also really enjoyed the PwC atmosphere and appreciated the company's values, including its priority of service work and of having wholly healthy employees.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been longer, whether starting sooner or ending later.

Advice

As soon as I worked with or networked with someone, I found it beneficial to write down his/her name so that I could add him/her on LinkedIn, keeping a log of my connections and also creating a way to communicate with them in the future if needed.
