College Technical Intern
May - August 2018 • Huntsville, AL
What I liked
We worked on real tasks that were critical to the company and weren't given random "intern" tasks. There were a lot of interns at my location and the company did a really good job to introduce the interns to the company through multiple intern events, talks, and networking functions
What I wish was different
It was so far from home
Advice
Even though I was far from home, I had a really great experience at work and I am super grateful for all that I learned. Seek opportunities if they sound interesting to you!!!

Software Engineering Intern
June - September 2022 • Linthicum Heights, MD
What I liked
Positive work environment, flexible hours and days of work, great team, great managers, got to explore all aspects of the company (meaning I got to see things outside of my field).
What I wish was different
Sometimes I would get an assignment that was supposed to last two weeks but was something that I could do in two days. Even though I offered to do more work, none was usually given to me. Because of this, I usually spent the rest of the sprint bored out of my mind with nothing to do, and unable to leave.
Advice
Network as much as possible. There are many opportunities at this company if you look for them.

Propulsion Engineering Intern
January 2020 • Chandler, AZ
What I liked
I liked the community and the variety of experiences that the company provided for their interns. This past summer, NG also hosted plenty of events with interns to be able to interact together and learn more about opportunities and the vision of the company.
What I wish was different
I wish there was greater outreach of mentorship to the interns joining on last summer. I was lucky to have great mentorship when I was first onboarded, but it seems like my department got much more busy recently and couldn't provided that same guidance to the new interns.
Advice
Always be willing to say YES! The opportunities are fun and make a difference, either for the department or for the program that you contribute to.

College Technical Intern
January - May 2023 • Beavercreek, OH
What I liked
During my co-op, I had the opportunity to learn how to use an FPGA and code in System Verilog. I also got to learn more in depth on how to use an oscilloscope. I enjoyed getting to learn and work at a different pace, instead of a typical classroom environment. In addition, the company was super flexible with the hours that I would work each day. The team of engineers that I worked with were very friendly and always willing to help or answer questions.
What I wish was different
The onboarding process had a lot of components and it was not always clear what to do next. It would be nice to have a singular checklist of everything that needed to be done. I also had to do a lot of the hiring process, which included a lot of time consuming paperwork, during the end of the semester, when classes were finishing up. It was a slow start for a few weeks getting through orientation before I started on a project. I would have preferred to get started on a project sooner.
Advice
I would recommend getting to know and network with as many people as you can. Everyone at the company is super friendly and always willing to help you. I would also recommend that when you are learning something, you should take the time to learn it well. I found that I had enough time to complete tasks, document what I did, and to take the time to understand what I was doing.

A collaborative culture, supportive people, cutting-edge technology, able to contribute meaningful deliverables.
What I wish was different
It was perfect.
Advice
Be active--if you don't have something to do--that's on you. There is plenty to do, so if you need more work, ask for it. Space Park has some of the most cutting-edge technology that you will ever work on so take advantage of all it has to offer in your short time there. Also, beach volleyball is on Wednesdays at 5 PM near Hermosa Beach...word to the wise...you should go.

Electrical Engineering Intern
May - August 2021 • Gilbert, AZ
What I liked
There was a really great culture at the Gilbert Campus! I also liked walking through the manufacturing building to see what the company was physically working on at the time.
What I wish was different
Honestly, nothing! The work-life balance was great. The pace is a little slow as an intern, but once I started learning more, I found more work to do. Having a great mentor to work alongside with made a huge difference, too.
Advice
Be patient! Onboarding takes a few days, and you will spend the first couple of weeks in training.

What I liked
I had a great experience here. Gained a lot of experience in short amount of time. Apply skill I known on the job. Great company culture and flexible schedules. I was able to work on project and testing, using simulation and hardware languages.
What I wish was different
The intern program could be more streamline and easier. Need to ask around for resources. Was difficult to connect with other intern or higher up. A lot of people are busy so hard to get help, I could have ask for more task or opportunity.
Advice
have a positive altitude and be prepare to learn. My first day I was overwhelmed with info and task. But after keep on trying and show passion to learn, I was able to adapt quickly. I was able to get a lot of help from senior on my team. Make sure to respect people time and be concise.

Systems Engineering Intern
May 2021 • Huntsville, AL
What I liked
I love the opportunities that Northrop Grumman has for interns like myself. At NGC, you are placed in an environment where you will receive real work. You are not the "coffee getter". You are assigned a task manager and a functional manager that will walk alongside you to guide and train you to be a great employee. NGC wants you to succeed, and they will do everything in their power to make it happen!
What I wish was different
I wish they were more strategic about how and where they place interns on teams. I originally started out on an automation team (which is not my college background).
Advice
Keep an open mind, and never stop asking questions.

College Intern Technical
June - August 2023 • Sunnyvale, CA
What I liked
Very friendly coworkers, relaxed but professional environment, a lot of freedom to work on projects that are interesting and check out other technical teams. Flexible work schedule.
What I wish was different
A little more organization regarding project assignments, some teams didn't seem fully prepared to take on an intern. However, this was an encouragement to be proactive in taking on projects so ended up as a good thing for me.
Advice
Be your own advocate when trying to find things to work on If it interests you, let people know.

Field Engineering Intern
June - August 2023 • Linthicum Heights, MD
What I liked
I had the opportunity to work directly with industry projects and assist in company products
What I wish was different
Wish I had been placed on a better project with more opportunities, unfortunately the project I was working on was coming to a close and did not leave me much work.
Advice
I would make use of other sources at Northrop whenever you have free time, there are so many external resources to learn about other topics, or tour other facilities, or attend informational sessions about other programs.
