What I liked

Awesome company and experience with working engineers. Gained valuable insight to the company and what a typical workload and complexity I will see after graduation.

College Administrative Intern

June 2020 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I was able to take part in meetings, and help out with tasks to support my team and the contracts they worked on. Also, the fact that Northrop Grumman was able to keep the summer internship program despite COVID-19.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship was in person and I was able to network with more professionals and fellow interns.

Advice

I would recommend not being afraid to ask for more work from your manager and use any downtime to learn more about the company and complete pieces of training that are useful for your own professional development.

What I liked

I liked that we were able to work on real projects that the company was working on.

What I wish was different

Due to covid we had to do a remote internship. I would have preferred an in-person internship, but understandable given the circumstances. Other than that, it was a great experience.

What I liked

The flexibility that the company offered as well as the meaningful work assignments and competitive pay.

What I wish was different

Working remotely due to COVID was unfortunate because I never had the chance to meet face to face with my colleagues and build more personal relationships.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions. The defense industry is like a foreign language because it is simply not taught to anyone outside of the business. You have to be ready and willing to always be learning and always ask questions to further your knowledge and understanding.

Vehicle Engineering Design Intern

May - July 2020 • Melbourne, FL

What I liked

Working at Northrop Grumman was an incredible and rewarding experience. I was fortunate enough to be able to complete my internship on site. I learned so much about the industry, engineering processes, and collaboration. I learned new software, and made a ton of connections networking. The people were super helpful and friendly.

What I wish was different

I decided to commute from Daytona Beach to Melbourne. I would not do that again. If the opportunity arises, I would definitely move for the summer. The drive is exhausting after awhile.

Advice

Be willing to learn as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask questions. No one expects you to have all the answers already.
