I liked the work and getting to do the same work as the engineers in ny department.
What I wish was different
I wished the pandemic didn't happen to have more face to face contact.

Mechanical Engineering Intern
May - August 2020 • Roy, UT
What I liked
It was an enlightening experience to be surrounded by a diverse group of engineers in a professional setting. There were employees who had worked in the industry for over 50 years, and there were employees who had been in the industry for 5 years and all of them were able to offer valuable advice.
What I wish was different
I wish I had received my security clearance prior to my start date. I was still able to complete a fair amount of work without it, but my tasking was limited due to security protocol.
Advice
Northrop Grumman is an amazing employer and I encourage anyone interested in STEM to pursue an internship/career with them.

Global Supply Chain Intern
June - August 2019 • Redondo Beach, CA
What I liked
In my internship I was given a lot of freedom to learn about the things within my department that most interested me, and to work on projects that I felt were important. I liked having the independence to choose my own work and not always needing to check in with someone. I was able to learn a broad variety of skills because of the freedom I was given to work with everyone on the team at different points.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more opportunity to connect and work with other interns in my field. There was only one other intern in my department, and we chatted sometimes but our work was always different. The company hosted a lot of events for interns to mingle and connect, however I wanted to connect more at work rather than outside of work. While I loved the freedom of my role, it would have been valuable to work with other interns on an ongoing project or goal potentially.
Advice
Go into the experience with an open mind. No matter what role you are in for an internship, there is always so much to learn and explore. Everyone in the company is very friendly and most people have open-door policies. I gained so much just from emailing managers in other departments and having meetings with them to learn more about the company and where I best fit. So much room for growth and leadership.

Vehicle Engineering Design Intern
May - July 2020 • Melbourne, FL
What I liked
Working at Northrop Grumman was an incredible and rewarding experience. I was fortunate enough to be able to complete my internship on site. I learned so much about the industry, engineering processes, and collaboration. I learned new software, and made a ton of connections networking. The people were super helpful and friendly.
What I wish was different
I decided to commute from Daytona Beach to Melbourne. I would not do that again. If the opportunity arises, I would definitely move for the summer. The drive is exhausting after awhile.
Advice
Be willing to learn as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask questions. No one expects you to have all the answers already.

What I liked
The flexibility that the company offered as well as the meaningful work assignments and competitive pay.
What I wish was different
Working remotely due to COVID was unfortunate because I never had the chance to meet face to face with my colleagues and build more personal relationships.
Advice
Ask a lot of questions. The defense industry is like a foreign language because it is simply not taught to anyone outside of the business. You have to be ready and willing to always be learning and always ask questions to further your knowledge and understanding.

I was able to take part in meetings, and help out with tasks to support my team and the contracts they worked on. Also, the fact that Northrop Grumman was able to keep the summer internship program despite COVID-19.
What I wish was different
I wish that the internship was in person and I was able to network with more professionals and fellow interns.
