Northrop Grumman Corporation

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

June - August 2023 • Linthicum Heights, MD

What I liked

I liked being able to see all the different options available within the company as well as being able to build a personal network for a possible job route post graduation.

What I wish was different

I wish that I been able to work on multiple smaller projects rather than just one large one.

Advice

Try to make as many connections with people as you can. Don't just talk to people within your department. An internship is your opportunity to build your own network.

Finance Intern - NGI

May - August 2023 • Magna, UT

What I liked

Northrop Grumman was very prepared for my arrival. They had a project ready for me, were ready to introduce me to my manager and teammates, and had lots of learning material to help me.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more opportunities to meet other interns and connect with other departments.

Advice

Take time to introduce yourself to other people. Company culture isn't very open, so few people will introduce themselves to you, but they will be more than happy to help you once you reach out to them.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2023 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

NGC being a large organization, it provided a lot of resources for overall development. Not only did I learn how software engineers work in a full time job, I actually made contributions that affected real world projects. I had lots of opportunities to collaborate between different disciplines that cover product development. My managers provided me with all round mentoring and help me make connections.

What I wish was different

I liked the internship experience to be multi faceted and all encompassing but maybe there should be an avenue for specific experiences.

Advice

It broadened my understanding of writing code outside of just college projects. Definitely recommend.

MDC2 Program Management Intern

May - November 2024 • Melbourne, FL

What I liked

During my program management internship at Northrop Grumman within the E-2 International Capture team, I worked on financial tracking, created capture presentations, and contributed to strategic initiatives. I was also provided with numerous educational resources to further enhance my skills. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into managing complex defense programs, while improving my ability to work cross-functionally and deliver high-impact results in a global defense context.

What I wish was different

While my internship at Northrop Grumman was incredibly valuable, I would have liked more opportunities for hands-on experience in the field, especially interacting directly with project teams on-site or engaging more deeply with clients. I believe that would have added another layer of understanding to the work I was doing and given me a more comprehensive view of the program management process in action.

Advice

Take full advantage of the educational resources and mentorship opportunities available to you. Even if your tasks seem straightforward, there’s so much to learn from observing how senior professionals handle complex projects. Asking questions, seeking feedback, and showing initiative can help you maximize your internship and build connections that will benefit you long after the experience ends.

Software Developer

May 2022 • Gilbert, AZ

What I liked

Everyone was very helpful when I was stuck, it felt like everyone on my team wanted me to succeed and I was given meaningful tasks that made a real difference.

What I wish was different

It took somewhat long for a couple interns to get everything setup that could have been done beforehand.

Advice

Talk to people - there's a lot of great people with lots of experience that will be happy to share tips and give you advice!
